Placenta: an organ with high energy requirements

چکیده
Placenta is a unique organ, without which the very phenomenon of human pregnancy impossible. Semiallogeneous nature, localization placenta, complex and heterogeneous cellular composition determines its multifaceted role in course physiological pregnancy, indicates importance studying this organ number reproductive pathologies. The purpose review was to analyze literature sources illustrating energydependent processes placental metabolism determine molecular basis energy conversion. Publications foreign Russian authors from PubMed database scientific electronic library eLIBRARY.ru were used when writing review. highlights main functions placenta: transport synthetic terms their place structure expenditure organ. systems by ions gases maternal blood through barrier performed, are considered. placenta synthesis steroid hormones glucocorticoids detailed. bioenergetic also considered: glucose metabolism, functional activity mitochondria creatine kinase system placenta. These data allow us put on par with other organs high requirements (brain, transverse striated skeletal muscles, heart, kidneys, liver), most susceptible metabolic disorders. Maintaining balance between macroergic compounds critical for an adequate imbalances can lead such pathologies as fetal retardation syndrome or preeclampsia. Further study supply seems important understanding mechanisms intrauterine development disorders developing pathogenetic treatment.

The Human Placenta: an Atypical Endocrine Organ
متن کاملEnergy and substrate requirements of the placenta and fetus.
The exchange of nutrients between placenta and fetus involves three major mechanisms: (1) direct placental transfer of nutrients from the maternal to the fetal plasma, (2) placental metabolism and consumption of nutrients, (3) placental metabolism of nutrient substrates to alternate substrate forms. Additionally, placental size, architecture, developmental and pathological processes, and intera...

متن کاملThe Rabbit Placenta as an Organ of Diffusional Exchange
The umbilical arteries of intact, in-situ placentas of one series of anesthetized rabbits were perfused with deoxygenated blood equilibrated with 10% or 20% acetylene and in another series with oxygenated blood without acetylene. The transfer of acetylene, and probably also of oxygen, were shown not to be limited by diffusion. Above the normal physiological rates of fetal placental flow, oxygen...
متن کاملThe placenta as a haematopoietic organ.
The recent description of the placenta as a tissue rich in haematopoietic stem and progenitor cells has not only opened up a whole new line of investigation into how haematopoiesis is regulated in this unique mammalian tissue, but has also resulted in the revisiting of long-standing and yet unanswered questions about the significance of having multiple haematopoietic organs during development. ...
